Geoff Robins BVetMed, FACVSc
Graduated with honours from the Royal Veterinary College, London in 1969.
After 2-years as a house surgeon at the RVC field station, he migrated to Canada in 1971 to take up a residency in small animal surgery at the Ontario Veterinary College at the University of Guelph. In 1973 he migrated to Australia to take a job in small animal practice in Sydney. In 1974 he took the position of lecturer and later, senior lecturer in small animal surgery at the Veterinary School at the University of Queensland. Registered as a specialist in small animal surgery in Queensland.
In 1990 he left the University to enter private specialist surgical practice in Brisbane. Since 1999 he has been a self-employed Consultant Specialist Surgeon and the owner of St Lucia Surgical Services. Until February 2015 this company was the Australian agency for Veterinary Instrumentation (UK) and Innovative Animal Products (USA).
Currently working 5 days per week as a mobile surgeon doing almost exclusively stifle surgery.
Geoff was Chief Examiner of the Australian College of Veterinary Scientists (ACVSc) from 1989-1992 and President from 1995-97. He was the coordinator of College Science Week for 10 years. He received the ACVSc Presidential Award in 1999 and an Honorary Fellowship 2000.
He was awarded the BSAVA Memorial Surgery Prize in 1995, the BSAVA Simon Award for services to surgery in 1998. In 2000 he was made the ASAVA’s Small Animal Practitioner of the Year. He was a member of AO-Vet and has been involved in AO courses in Switzerland, USA, Japan, UK, Australia, New Zealand and Chile. He is on the editorial board of the VCOT.
He is the author of 5 Chapters in textbooks on veterinary orthopaedics and he has published numerous papers on all aspects of surgery. Geoff is married with 3 grown-up children and two grand-children. His other interests include cooking, bush walking and the regeneration of native bush-land.
