Dr Brooke Sheehan BVSc (Hons)
Brooke completed her veterinary science degree at The University of Queensland in 2005. She went on to work in mixed practice for 2 years in Beerwah on the Sunshine Coast, just up the road from Steve Irwin’s Australia Zoo and overlooking the beautiful Glasshouse Mountains.
Having always loved to travel, Brooke then relocated to the UK, where she worked as a locum vet before moving into the role of London Territory Sales Manager with Ceva Animal Health. For 2 years, she traversed the city of London, visiting almost every veterinary clinic within the M25 and personally getting to know many London vets.
In 2011, Brooke returned to Australian soil and continued working with Ceva Animal Health in Sydney, becoming a Product Manager and looking after their behaviour portfolio and small animal medicines. After another 2 years with Ceva, she took an opportunity to work for industry powerhouse Boehringer Ingelheim, as their Sydney Territory Sales Manager and Technical Services Veterinarian. She finally returned to her home town of Brisbane in 2013, where she embarked on her greatest role yet: motherhood.
Today, as Managing Director for Improve International Australia, Brooke oversees all of the company’s operations, including curriculum development, logistics, marketing and HR. Brooke’s experience as a veterinarian combined with meeting hundreds of vets over the years has allowed her to see the common daily struggles of vets in practice; she firmly believes the success of Improve is built upon the foundation of understanding these struggles and listening to veterinarians to deliver courses that truly meet their needs. Brooke also has an enormous appreciation for vets who are juggling work with looking after a young family.

Dr Carmel Griffin BVSc CSAM GCEd. MANZCVSc
Curriculum and Program Development
Carmel qualified from the University of Queensland with a bachelor degree in Veterinary Science. She went on to work in the United Kingdom for 5 years, completing a 3 year residency in feline medicine at the University of Liverpool. She completed her RCVS Certificate of Small Animal Medicine and the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists Membership exams in Feline Medicine.
Carmel then worked in a series of private feline, referral and University practices. She developed a strong interest in clinical teaching during that time, particularly during seven years teaching undergraduates in the University of Queensland Veterinary School. In this role she completed her Graduate Certificate in Clinical Education, through the School of Medicine. She continued her veterinary teaching as Clinical Academic in Veterinary Medicine before returning to private small animal medical practice in 2012, where she currently still works.
In her role as the Practical Course Coordinator with Improve International Australia, Carmel ensures delegates a positive and rewarding hands-on learning experience.
Helen Balaam BComm ASA
Helen joined the company as Accountant from its inception as an Australian start up in 2013. Helen graduated with Distinction in Accounting and Law (minor) from the University of Wollongong and comes to Improve with vast accounting experience in a variety of industries including agriculture, construction, technology, financial services and government. Having also completed a training qualification in 2010, she has combined her passions for education and accounting to share her knowledge as a part time teacher at TAFE NSW.
In her role with Improve, Helen is responsible for all general ledger accounting and financial and management reporting. Helen is enjoying watching the company grow, through its success in delivering quality professional development courses, and meeting the challenges that come with that.
Claudia is currently studying Veterinary Science at The University of Queensland and works for Improve helping to manage the equipment required at the workshops. In her spare time, she is involved in training dog agility.
Program Administrator / Marketing Assistant
As Improve’s Program Administrator / Marketing Assistant, Jessica takes care of new program enquiries and registrations, and also assists Brooke and Carmel with event logistics and marketing communications.
Jessica is a keen dog trainer and currently trains with her German Shepherd in agility.
